There’s something about the Spring Carnival that we love. It’s not so much that we are that into the GG’s – though it does mean we are very close to the fun and frivolity that is the Melbourne Cup – but maybe more the fact that it heralds the end of winter and the beginning of beach season. Anyhow, all this news of Australia’s newest superstar racehorse has come across our desktop, so we’ve stopped to pay some attention.
Winx. That’s her name, and she has apparently “delivered a performance of such sheer dominance, never before seen in the Cox Plate, to capture the country’s weight-for-age championship for a second time.” It was the mare’s 13th victory in succession and has experts comparing her with Kingston Town and even Phar Lap; no faint praise indeed.
It just so happens that Sean IZZARD was at Randwick for the first meet of the Carnival shooting for Aussie bookmakers Palmerbet where he took the tip and snapped these pictures of the champion mare and jockey, Hugh Bowman, doing what they do best.
…say no more.
