The Pool Grant Terms & Conditions
Entrants must submit two PDF files:
Written Submission: Artist statement (150 words max) and proposal detailing how you intend to realise your project (300 words max)
Visual Submission: Samples of your photography or vision for the project
Only one proposal can be submitted per photographer. The grant is to be used by the recipient to fulfil the project as per the proposal.
To be eligible to enter you must be an Australian or New Zealand resident, aged 18+ years and have less than 3 years of professional photography experience.
All images entered must have been conceptualised, exposed and created by the entrant.
Entries close 11:59 pm EST Thursday 4 May 2017. No late entries will be accepted.
Entry fee is $20.
Submitted images must be based on an image captured through a camera. Digital manipulation and composite imaging are allowed, but you may not submit images that have been wholly computer generated or 3D illustrated. The recipient may be requested to provide original film or digital files.
You must have full copyright ownership of the submitted images. Copyright of the photographs shall remain with the photographer at all times. The Pool Grant recipient agrees to allow his/ her awarded images to be reproduced in newspapers, magazines and catalogues in order to advertise and promote the competition, screenings and exhibition.
The Pool Grant recipient agrees to allow his/ her awarded images to be reproduced in the electronic media (i.e. television, mobile devices and the internet), if the use is specifically related to the advertising and promotion of the competition, screenings (and exhibition, if relevant). Images used on the competition website will be low-resolution only. Non-finalist images may also be used as teaser promotions for the competition and exhibitions.
Judging criteria will be based upon the artistic merit and originality of the written submission (supported by examples of entrants photographic work).
The judges are The POOL COLLECTIVE team Sean Izzard, Simon Harsent, Danny Eastwood, Christopher Ireland, Juliet Taylor, Ingvar Kenne, Krystle Wright and Cameron Gray. The POOL COLLECTIVE team will compile a shortlist between 3 & 5 photographers (to be determined by the strength of the submissionswithin the particular years group). The recipient of the grant is then chosen by an independent guest judge.
Announcement of Recipient
The Pool Grant 2017 recipient will be announced on the opening night of The Pool Grant 2016 recipient’s solo exhibition during Head On Photo Festival.
Requirements of Recipient
The recipient of the Pool Grant is required to:
Use the grant to photograph the project of their choice.
Make the best possible effort to attend The Pool Grant 2017 and 2018 exhibitions in Sydney and may be asked to speak about their project at the events. Expenses related to accommodation in Sydney are the responsibility of the recipient.
Have completed their project by 1st May 2018.
The associated printing and framing costs of exhibiting are the responsibility of the recipient.
Upon completion of your project, one piece of artwork from your series must be provided to POOL for inclusion in the POOL gallery.
